Oscar Pistorius

I've written about Oscar Pistorius a couple of times before but to give him the Growing Pains treatment, we need to start with his Jupiter and Saturn.

Pistorius was born on 22 November 1986 at 10:30am in Johannesburg South Africa (Rodden Rating: A; Collector De Jabrun) with Jupiter in sensitive Pisces and Saturn in Sagittarius.

Teaching pupils with Jupiter in water signs is always a challenge because a school is not their natural element and they can easily become overwhelmed by chaos. I have found this is especially true for pupils with Jupiter in Pisces.  As I wrote in my book:

"Jupiter in Pisces pupils are very much like fish on dry land in the classroom. the edges of reality are sharp and uncomfortable, the noises deafening and confusing and the limitations of human experience simply too harsh. They seem half asleep most of the time — and they probably are. "

Had I taught Oscar's class, I would have used music and art as a means to get them interested in whatever subject matter I had to teach. I would have offered extra curricular classes on meditation--and I almost certainly would have tried to sneak meditation into lessons if I could get away with it.  Indeed meditation isn't a bad idea for any year group. However, Oscar's class would have also had Saturn in Sagittarius and these pupils can be a little impervious to discipline because they can be very self righteous and very often refuse to take responsibility for their actions. Very often at critical points, a person with Saturn in Sagittarius will experience a crisis of faith. Jupiter and Saturn are in a square aspect natally suggesting the growing up process is in some way limited or slowed. One can see by the descriptions that there are conflicting themes between them.

On the night he shot and killed Reeva Steenkamp, Saturn had been transiting over his natal planets  and MC in Scorpio. Much had been made of his controlling ways in the subsequent trial and the planets do demonstrate this. But Mercury and Mars were transiting his natal Jupiter. I don't doubt Oscar was half asleep when he pulled the trigger. However this does not absolve him from taking responsibility for his actions.

Today news that Oscar will face murder charges comes as Saturn is about to transit its natal position (a Saturn return). The first Saturn return for anyone is a difficult time. Here is when a person truly begins the process of facing up to their responsibilities and the inevitability of death. And it looks like he will face at least 15 years in prison--half a Saturn cycle. The transiting Sun to this place serves as a highlight.

In my work as a teacher and astrologer, I am all about intervention. I think if we can understand the learning process, we can prevent criminal behaviour. This essentially means we need to be taught how to understand ourselves, our limitations and our strengths. I hope that this Saturn return gives Oscar Pistorius an opportunity to reflect on his faith rather than an opportunity to become a more hardened, bitter criminal.

In the updated version of my book, I will be writing a lot more about prevention and intervention.
